The Devils are no longer a sit back and trap team. They forecheck more aggressively than the Penguins if you ask the coaching staff. I don't think the F;yers were lulled by The Devils. I think they may been ;lulled by their own lack of desperation. They may have gotten a little comfortable...and comfort can be a bad thing come playoff time
The Deviols are very aggressive on the PK and the Flyers seemed to be having trouble adjusting to that. They had so many pretty goals on the PP last series, they seem to be looking for those now too. They have to get back to being simple and hungry.
Believe me......this coach is anything but complacent. Im sure after the second period he was very direct in telling them thay hadn't been good enough (except for Bryz). it's not always the coach's fault when a team lacks intensity, especially come playoff tiem when they should be motivated simply by the situation itself
Agreed. They won battles and they won races. They were clearly the most desperate team
The Flyers have been tremendous at bouncing back from losses all season. I expect they will play better Thursday night. I also think the Devils will get a boost from being in their own building so the Flyers need to be ready
That he did. He almost stole the game
Yes......it did seem eventually the Devils would score. I agree. Bryz could hold them off for only so long
I chose Voracek and like the team, he started well, but he seemed less noticeable as the game wore on
Shhsssh! lol Besides, it didn't bring the Cup!
I am not too concerned about Coburn's minutes, although he had a marathon shift at one point tonight where even he was out of gas. Matt Carle could be wearing down a little. But really come playoff time, it's normal for certain defensemen to be leaned upon. We are only in the early second round and the team had a week of between rounds. The wear-down effect shouldn't be a factor yet
I agree. He continues to bring a nice element. It's also possible that his speed was even more evident tonight because some of is teammates weren't playing at their top speed
Yes, I did hear sweep mentioned the other day. And I do think some fans were in line with that. And as easy as it is to say the players can't buy into that, they are human and it can seep in. Not overconfidence as much as a comfort level
If all teams could bottle that, they would. These are human beings and they are not at their best every single night for whatever reason
They were better on the road during the season, yes. I wouldn't say it's a lack of effort at home. This team has a high effort level in general. But they do appear to get a little comfortable at home
I think the series is basically even in terms of the breakdown. I think the Devils are a quality team that finished just one point behind the Flyers in the regualr season. This isn't David vs. Goliath. . They were not about to just roll over.
Our pleasure...that's what we are here for
It could just as easily be 2-0 Flyers if Bryz had been able to hold the fpor a little while longer tonight. Ifs, ands, and buts mean nothing right now.
I don't think so. They had a week off. I don't think they can blame fatigue
It's important because if the Devils control the play the way they did the last 45 minutes or so of this one, they will begin to establish a serious case of superiority. Im confident the Flyers will be better.
That's all folks. Thanks for all the great questions and comments. I'll chat with you again on Thursday night.
